How do I set up a profile to find a match
Setting up your profiles to find a match is the most important part of eAupair.com and gives you the power to find the exact match for a Family or an Au pair.

Once you have registered:
Click on "Find a Match". You are given five search methods:
Click on "By Search Profile". This screen allows you to run, amend, add, delete or diagnose your profiles (See image below for example of the screen).

When you registered, a default profile was created called "Default Email Profile" and is listed the first time you go to Find a Match. Please follow these steps to create your own profiles to find your match.

On the image below there are 3 points (highlighted in red circles) that will be explained.

New Profile Name
Point 1 This is where you can enter in the name of a new profile, you give it any name that you want. We suggest that the name refers to what you are looking for so that you remember what kind of search it is performing. Eg. My perfect match, An acceptable match or Not so perfect match.
Add New Profile Button Point 2 Once you have entered in a profile name click here on the "Add New Profile" Button. This takes you to the list of criteria that you can search on. Hint : In the list boxes of the criteria, if an option does not matter to you, then do not select anything.
Profile Actions Point 5 These icons are used to manage each profile listed.
Click on this Icon to Run Profiles This icon runs the profile to list the possible matches to the criteria that you selected
Click on this Icon to Amend Profiles This icon allows you to make changes to the profile to adjust and change the criteria.
Click on this Icon to Delete Profiles If you no longer want this profile click to delete it.
Click on this Icon to Diagnose a Profile Sometimes a profile will not yield any matches. You can diagnose the profile to see where the problem is that is causing no matches to be found.

Cannot delete your default profile Your default profile cannot be deleted. This is the reason you have a grey icon for the default profile. If you create further profiles you can delete them. You can amend all profiles as you wish.

Hint : One of the strengths of eAupair.com is the ability to match on each criteria, but at the same time for every extra criteria that you add the number of matches will drop.

Hint : Create many profiles, with a mixture of ones that are very strict and others that have few criteria, but meet minimum criteria, the more criteria you add in a profile the less matches you will find.

How do I set up a set of match criteria in a profile ?
This page allows you to select or amend criteria for a profile. You can select as many or as little criteria as you wish. Remember that the more criteria you select, the less more difficult it will be to find a match. The best approach is to do the following :
Set up a profile with the minimum requirements that you are looking for, between 1 - 3 criteria. In this profile you should select what is very important to you. You can then create another profile with more criteria selected 3 - 6, which would represent more of a perfect match, you can create a further profile with 6+ criteria set, but experience has shown us that there will be very few matches on a profile with this many criteria set.

What to keep in mind when selecting criteria

Multiple Selections
If you wish to have a match to all entries in the multiple selection boxes (see example image below), select none of the possible entries, which in effect will ignore that particular criteria.
Multiple Selections
Set as Email Profile
When this item is checked a daily email will be sent to you on possible matches against this profile. You can have any of your profiles set as an email profile. For each profile you set as an email profile you will receive an email for each one. If you do not wish to receive daily matches against a profile, uncheck the option.
Sort Profile By
When you run a profile you have the option of sorting the results as follows :
Date Registered - This will be in descending order, with the newest registrations first
First Name - In order A - Z
Last Name - In order A - Z
Reference - By reference number
Country - In order A - Z, from which country the user is from.
Last Login - In descending order of the last date that a user logged into eAupair, which will list the most active user first.

Who can become an au pair?
Au Pairs are traditionally aged between 18 - 27 years old. Au pairing is gaining popularity as more and more people want to experience different cultures and way of life. Therefore anyone can become an au pair. However it is important to note that families have every right to request a crimimal/police report on the potential au pair. Therefore if the potential au pair has a criminal record or any record of child abuse, the person will NOT be able to do au pair work. Traditionally au pairs have been females, however in recent years many males have also started applying for au pair jobs.

What is an Au Pair?
An au pair is (normally) a young person, who lives with a host family for between 1 and 24 months. The role of the au pair is basically to look after the children, prepare meals and do some light housework.
This is just a basic overview of what an au pair may be asked to do. The au pair may also be asked to:
drive the children to and from school,
help the children with homework, extra murals etc.,
When au pair programs were originally set up the purpose was to ensure an exchange of cultures coupled with looking after children. Therefore an au pair from France would want to work in the United States to learn English, the American culture and way of life. The family in return would also learn about the French language and culture and would get assistance with their children. The au pair does not sign a contract and is usually treated as part of the family. However the conditions of work should be laid down on paper to protect the family and the au pair.

What is a nanny?
Nannies usually have some type of formal training or have had a lot of experience with children. Nannies usually work full time and are available 24 hours a day. They get 1 or 2 days off per week. Nannies normally have sole responsibility for the child. A nanny signs a contract with her employer.

What does the family provide for the aupair?
The family pays for the aupair’s living expenses, which include room and board. If the au pair needs special dietary items she/he is responsible for this. The aupair is responsible for all personal items such as toiletries, health supplements, hair care items, etc.

A private bedroom should be provided for the aupair. Extra amenities in the room such as TV, stereo, phone, computer, are not required. However, the more comfortable an aupair feels in your home, the more successful the arrangement is likely to be.

The family can expect the aupair to pay for her/his long distance phone calls.

If the aupair drives the children to and from school and activities, and/or does the grocery shopping, the family pays for gas, oil and maintenance. The family can expect the aupair to pay for gas when she/he uses the car for her/his personal errands. You need to ask your insurance company for the options of how to insure the au pair as a driver of your vehicle(s).

Who pays for the au pair’s insurance?
The aupair is generally responsible for her/his medical insurance/expenses unless the aupair arrives through an agency, in which case insurance is included in the fees paid to the agency by both the family and aupair.

Who pays for airfare/travel costs?
Airfare/travel costs are usually negotiable. If the aupair does not come through an agency, families and aupairs often split the cost of a roundtrip ticket. If the aupair doesn’t have the money to pay for her/his half of the ticket up front, families can cover the cost and deduct the balance from wages. However, families' feedback is that this option does not always have a positive outcome as au pairs sometimes cancel their contract after the family has paid for the ticket. The family then loses the money they paid for the ticket. Families may also agree to refund the airfare in full or in part, once the au pair has started working or once the contract has been completed.

Who checks the au pair’s references?
We highly recommend that you ask for and check an aupair's references before making a commitment to hire.If the aupair does not have previous aupair experience, ask for references from previous employers and/or teachers if they are recently out of school. You could also ask for a police clearance certificate from the au pair's home country. If you are employing an American au pair, you can request that he/she obtain a child abuse clearance certificate.

The 2 sub headings are : Messages To You and Messages Sent By You.

Messages To You

This section lists the subject, the date the message was sent to you, if it was read by you and the if it was replied to by you. To read the message click on the subject of the message.
